North West TUC Network
In 1999, the North West TUC asked GMHC to take on
the embryo safety reps network and to develop it. The purpose of
a network for safety reps was to make it easier for reps to continue
exchanging and sharing information, advising and supporting each
other and discussing current issues even when they are not on TUC
courses.
From the 400 or so safety reps details, collected
by TUC Education centres, GMHC developed a database, and recruited
safety reps so that there are now almost 2,000 members in the NWTUC
Safety Reps Network. Membership is free, and all safety reps receive
a copy of Hazardous Times three times a year plus an invitation
to network training days on current health and safety issues. Each
of these days is free, with the venue and a meal covered by the
NWTUC, and attended by about 80 safety reps and the feedback is
that these days are very useful.

Due to changes in GMHC funding, form April, we are
looking at new ways to fund and to develop the Network. If your
branch would be prepared to pay £5 or more each year to cover the
cost of running the Network, or to affiliate to the hazards Centre
then please let us know. We hope to develop an e-mail forum for
safety reps on this website in the future.
Please consider affiliating
- anyway as we run on a very small budget and appreciate any support.
